Aquamarine: March Birthstone Looks

Hello to all of our March babies out there! This month’s birthstone is the beautiful aquamarine and we are so happy to welcome this month with this gorgeous gem. Here at Jaimie Nicole we have the perfect gift for anyone celebrating a birthday this month. But before we get into that, we wanted to give you a little history and background information on Aquamarine. The seawater color of aquamarine is where this gemstone gets its name from. “Aquamarine” is derived from the Latin word for seawater. Aquamarine is a valued gem of ancient lineage and is known to have significance for the great civilizations of the world such as the Romans and the Egyptians. The Greeks and the Romans knew the aquamarine as a sailor’s gem, ensuring the safe and prosperous passage across stormy seas. Aquamarines vary in color from pale blue to greenish-blue. The varying intensity of the color is due to the quantities of iron in the beryl crystal. Naturally occurring deep blue aquamarine stones are rare, expensive, and in high demand. Aquamarine with a greenish color is often heated to remove the yellow component of the color. You can still find aquamarine that's greenish in color, and these stones will be less expensive than aquamarine that has more blue to it. The icy blue color of aquamarine is flattering to a variety of skin tones, making this stone a timeless classic in the gem world. The serene color of aquamarine is said to bring peace and calming powers to its owner, relieving any stress and enhancing intuition. For centuries, aquamarine has been seen as a symbol of youth, hope, health, friendship, and fidelity. Since it is the color of water and the sky, it's also said to embody eternal life. It was long thought that aquamarine had a soothing effect on relationships, especially for married couples. This is one of the reasons that aquamarine makes a great anniversary gift. Aquamarine is also said to heighten awareness, communications skills, and quick response. It is said to have many healing properties for those who wear it. Aquamarine is a water element stone, powerful for cleansing the emotional body and opening communication. Its gentle energy brings emotional patterns to the surface and assists in understanding the reason for holding onto old thoughts or patterns that are limiting forward motion.

With all of that being said, you can see why this birthstone is in high demand and will make a great gift for any friend or loved one! Our birthstone necklaces are pre-packaged and come with a card that gives a brief explanation of some of the properties of this wonderful stone.
